Every computer that is connected to the internet, has an IP address, but these addresses are often hard to remember for most people. That is why the DNS system has been introduced a number of years ago so people can remember the names that are being translated by a DNS server behind the scenes into the corresponding IPv4 and IPv6 addresses. For www.bit.nl, this could be 213.136.12.97 (IPv4) and 2001:7b8:3:5::80:19 (IPv6).

In some cases, for example when configuring routers and other network equipment, it is sometimes necessary to work with IP addresses. Difficult. BIT has come up with a solution now: the emoji-address. IPv4 addresses will no longer be identified by decimal numbers and IPv6 addresses no longer by hexadecimal numbers, but as emojis. The best part of this solution is that it works for both IPv4 and IPv6.

Many people use emojis on a daily basis, so they are already used to that. And that makes it easier to remember. That is why we chose for this specific solution.
