Colocation Connections at BIT
BIT’s carrier-neutral data centres offer various solutions for internet and collocation connectivity, both in the Netherlands and internationally. As a customer, you’re free to choose betweeen our own network and a range of third-party networks. This gives you a lot of flexibility to establish direct connections between your office network and BIT’s data centres at competetive rates. With virtually every major network operator present in our data centres, the possibilities are almost endless.
Customers with their own network can get ports on one of the Internet Exchanges. If you’re such a customer you have the option to let BIT handle your transit traffic. With connections to Amsterdam and Frankfurt, either via dedicated wavelength or Ethernet, network operators can significantly extend their reach at a fairly low cost.
Internal Uplinks From BIT
BIT’s network is connected to five major Internet Exchanges. Colocation customers can choose from 100 Mbit/s, 1 Gbit/s or 10 Gbit/s internet connections. With redundant controllers and power supplies in our switches, we offer a guaranteed uptime of 99,9%.
For customers that require even more resilience, BIT offers a redundant connection with an uptime guarantee of 99,99%. Our experienced engineers are happy to help you with the configuration of failover protocols like RSTP and VRRP to keep your network online.
Transit For Your Own AS Network
If you operate your own AS (Autonomous Network), we can supply transit based on BGP (Border Gateway Protocol). Our peering network has extensive reach through connections to five Internet Exchanges worldwide, while our transit providers have been carefully selected based on the reach and quality of their networks. You can choose IPv6-only transit, IPv4-only transit or both. Our network engineers are available to help with the configuration if needed.
VLANs and Fibre Options to Amsterdam and Frankfurt
VLAN: your own connection over our network
We operate a network with fibre connections to the Interxion Science Park data centre (formerly SARA) and Equinix AMS in Amsterdam, as well as Interxion FRA4 in Frankfurt. We provide VLANs to our customers over all of these fibre connections. This gives you your own transparent, non-overbooked connection to one of these major internet hubs without the cost of a dedicated fibre connection. From the data centres in Amsterdam and Frankfurt, you can easily connect to other networks. In most cases, connections to other data centres in the same region can also be arranged at relatively low cost.
Our fibre connections between Ede and Amsterdam are configured in a ring topology and don’t overlap at any point. This allows us to provide protected VLANs between Ede and Amsterdam. If part of the ring unexpectedly fails, traffic is automatically rerouted via the other side of the ring.
Wavelengths
Using DWDM equipment, we can transmit different colours of light, or wavelengths, over a single fibre. This allows us to offer customers their own ‘colour’ on our fibre connections to Amsterdam or Frankfurt where required. This provides a fully transparent connection using a dedicated wavelength.
VLANs and Fibre Connections Between BIT Data Centres and Solcon
We have a large number of own fibre connections in a ring topology between our data centres BIT-1 and BIT-2. Customers with equipment in both data centres can choose a protected 1 Gbit/s VLAN, a fibre connection or a redundant fibre connection between the two locations. These connections provide an efficient and affordable wayt op back up data or replicate storage cabinets and databases between data centres.
Our partnership with Solcon also enables us to offer a unique combination of technical redundancy and legal certainty. By storing data at both BIT and Solcon, customers can be assured their data remains available in case of issues with one of the two companies, making this arrangement unique within the Dutch data centre market. To replicate data between BIT and Solcon, we provide 100 Mbit/s and 1 Gbit/s VLAN connections free of charge over our own direct fibre connection. For customers that need more bandwith, a 10 Gbit/s wavelength is also available.
NL-ix and NDIX in BIT Data Centres
The NL-ix and NDIX networks are both available in our data centres, allowing customers to have a direct connection to these exchanges. NL-ix is one of the largest Internet Exchanges in the world and operates in data centres throughout the Benelux, France, Germany and the United Kingdom. Its extensive geographical coverage provides access to a wide range of networks. NDIX is present in data centres in the Netherlands and Germany and operates as a digital marketplace. With a port on NDIX, customers can access a large network of service providers as well as offer their own services through other connected organisations.
Carriers in the BIT Data Centres
The BIT data centres are carrier-neutral, with a wide range of networks available accross different OSI layers. Customers can choose from Layer 1 providers (firbe, wavelength and copper connections), Layer 2 providers (Ethernet and VLAN) and Layer 3 (IP transit).
