Maintenance Ceph storage cluster
28-10-2020 00:00:00
- 28-10-2020 07:00:00
Urgency: Planned
Affected services:
- Virtual machines
- Shared storage
- Shared hosting
- MSSQL instances
Expected impact:
- Reduced redundancy
- Shared filesystem (CephFS) unavailable shortly (possibly multiple times)
Customer intervention required: No
Reference number: 170743
Summary:
On Wednesday October 28th between 00:00 hrs and 07:00 hrs engineers from BIT will perform maintenance on the Ceph storage cluster. The cluster will be upgraded from Mimic to Nautilus (13.2.8 -> 14.2.x).
Details:
We do not expect noticeable impact on the functioning of the cluster during this maintenance, with the exception of the shared filesystem service (CephFS). CephFS will be unavailable for a short period of time, possibly multiple times. The cluster will be upgraded node by node. When upgrading the nodes we will wait for a fully healthy status of the cluster (Ceph HEALTH_OK), before starting the upgrade of the next node. The cluster has been designed to be upgraded while being in use (live upgrading). However, every upgrade comes with (extra) risks, therefore the upgrade process will take place during a maintenance window.
