Summary:
During the maintenance the backend storage where the mailboxes are stored will be migrated to a new storage system. The system which handles the email client authentication will also be changed and the webmail software will be upgraded to a newer version.
Details:
The backend storage where the mailboxes are stored will be migrated from a NFS filer to CephFS. With the migration to CephFS we will reduce the risk of failures and improve the performance.
The webmail software will be upgraded to a newer version with the latest security patches.
In order to handle authentication requests from email clients more efficiently, we will be using proxy servers. The proxy server ensures that an email user, regardless of how much email clients are connected, will always end up on the same backend server. This should improve performance and reduce the chance of file locking issues.
During maintenance it is not possible to retrieve (new) email with an email client or via webmail. New incoming emails will be held by our mailspool servers and delivered when the backend storage is available again.
