Summary:
Emergency maintenance on the power distribution of some of the downflow units in BIT-2A will be performed. As a result, these units (which expel cooled air into the server room) will be shut off for a short period of time. There is a chance that this will lead to a brief, limited increase of temperature in BIT-2A. No maintenance will be performed on the power distribution for equipment in BIT-2A.
Details:
During a short disruption of utility power this morning (https://www.bit.nl/news/3143/91/Limited-temperature-increase-BIT-2A) the switch between utility power and emergency power failed to work properly for one sub-distributor. This sub-distributor provides power to some of the downflow units in BIT-2A, which lost power during the switchover. Our supplier will verify if the switch is functioning correctly to check the cause of the disruption this morning. During the switchover from utility to emergency power the downflow units will shut down for a short period of time. As a result there is a chance of a brief, limited increase in temperature. Of course, BIT datacenter engineers will supervise this maintenance. Prior to this maintenance we will preemptively lower the temperature in the datacenter a bit.
